Old Friends

What kind of seeds are you interested in?(perennials, tomatoes, etc.)

Tomatoes
Hey Remy, are you planning any classes or anything like that this year? My tomatoes are usually OK, but my peppers are never good, and I would love to hear what you have to say on the subject.

Hi Brenda!
No, no classes this year. I did one last year, but time wise nothing was good for late winter this semester.
Are you growing your peppers in the ground or pots?
I recommend pots. Pots that are about 12" tall work good. I use potting soil like ProMix or Baccto Professional Growers Mix(Michigan Peat). Then I add granular vegetable fertilizer like Eposoma's. I save the pots and soil. Every year, I dump out the soil, mix in more fertilizer and re-pot.
Hope that helps,
Remy

I recieved great service even though 2 of my items were out of stock. Thanks for the extra seeds and the refund. I appreciate your prices but one thing I miss is having a seed packet with the plant description and planting instructions.

Hi Julie,
I'm glad you were happy with the service!
I know some customers miss info on the packets, but it would make everything rise in cost so much especially being a small retailer. Printed items when purchased in smaller quantities are quite expensive. Who knows maybe in the future, we will be big enough to be able to absorb that cost.

Turkish varieties
forgot to say - there are these awesome cucumbers we eat in Antakya, Turkey - right next to Syria. These cucs are small, slightly curvy, spineless, sweet. All the middle eastern grocers in Detroit sell them too. But I don't know their name! Also, in Antakya there are beefsteak tomatoes that are almost as sweet as cherries. They're all funky looking, red. I'm on the eternal hunt for the Turkish sweet cucs and sweet beefsteaks. If you ever get them it would be amazing.

Jessica,
If you could find out the name of the cuke or get a pic, that would be great. It is hard to know what it is without either. Do you have friends or relatives in Antakya? Maybe you could get some tomato seeds sent here for a grow out.

looking forward to trying your seeds.
I like the opportunity to buy smaller quantities of seeds than are offered in other seed catalogs. I always feel guilty throwing unused seeds away so I end up with open packets of seeds sometimes years old.

Don't have a pay pal account is it difficult to run American Express through it? Also, what is your average turnaround time?

Hi Randy,
Glad you like the site
PayPal should accept it without an account when you check out.
Orders going out vary in speed by a few things day of the week order, size of the order, and time of year. So small orders will go out normally in a couple days. Larger orders especially during the busy season (January-March) may take up to a week. Anything over a week, always gets an email on order status. If everything starts to get back up, or the shop is closed, it will be clearly stated on the site so no one is left wondering.
Thanks for your interest,
Remy

Hi Tom,
Very cool that you are WSing! I think you'll love it. I heard of your group from another member. I think it it great you have formed one. We have a WNY group that gets together every spring to swap plants and we have become very good friends. I'm glad to hear some of your group has said nice things about The Sample Seed Shop. Word of mouth keeps things cheap
