I would like to know if you will have Bean ‘Jeminez’ aka ‘Jimenez’, pole, in the near future. Thanks. Martha
Replied on: 9:27am 10-10-2011

Hi Martha,
I'm sorry I did not end up growing Jeminez this season. So unless I find them somewhere, I'll not have them until the fall of 2012. I do plan on having some Jembo Polish and Bosnian Pole (and North Carolina Long Speckled Greasy Cut-Short if they ripen in time!)for sale shortly. All 3 of those beans are excellent.

List hanging basket, small Pot, mediun pot, etc
I am trying to get a couple people interested and buy a packet of all varieties you have. Start a few of each in a small greenhouse each of us, and a few weeks later start another batch. PS How many varieties will you have in Decenber?
Replied on: 12:06pm 10-07-2011

Hi Joe,
Thank you for your interest. I'm not sure how many tomatoes will be listed for December, but it will definitely be over 100 varieties.
Listing pot size is difficult. Very tiny tomatoes can be grow in very small pots. Most small tomatoes if you have 12" pot, you will be ok, A little bigger is nice. The size will not make or break the outcome of your harvest. Using what you have is better than having nothing at all. When grown in pots, they need more care to watch for when they need to be watered, but other than that, they are quite easy.
As I note on my site, any tomato can be grown in a pot. Tall indeterminates are difficult though since you do need a bigger pot, but more importantly, staking becomes an issue. A cage in a large pot will topple over under the weight of the plant and tomatoes since a pot does not hold the stakes in like ground does.
I do not have any "tumbling" type tomatoes right now, but if I do, I will note them as such.
Thank you,
Remy

Your site is awesome!! I am a backyard gardener who recently discovered the amazing world of heirloom tomatoes. I didn't think I would be able to grow many varieties because of the expense of finding seeds at different sites and paying for a pretty expensive pack (of more seeds than I needed) plus shipping. You have made it affordable to try a lot of the heirloom tomatoes I've been reading about! I can't wait for next spring. Thank you so much! I really appreciate what you're doing.

Need more time to see all you have - you are nicely balanced with so many varieties! Having the Tithonia yellow made my day!!
I was amused by your comment about Lucky Cross that you have a love-hate relation with it due to it taking so long to ripen. This is my first summer growing it and so far we have no relationship because it still hasn't ripened! I am interested in buying Little Lucky when you have it in November. Does that variety have a shorter growing time? Love your site and look forward to ordering once your November tomato list is complete as you have several varieties I really want that you indicate will be available then!
Replied on: 11:15am 09-13-2011

I'm glad you love the site and varieties!
Little Lucky is not early, but earlier than Lucky Cross.
Yes, November 15th(give or take a day) the new list will be up.

maturation times on peppers, tomatoes, etc
Great site! I love your descriptions of the plants--wish I could see your garden! It must be incredible. I'm looking forward to ordering seeds for fall and next season, but I was wondering if you could list approximate maturation times for things like tomatoes, peppers, squash, etc. Again, I love your site and I'm so glad Dave's helped me discover it.
Replied on: 3:44pm 08-18-2011

Hi Claire,
I'm glad you found the site and like it! My garden can be nice if you like the jam packed overflowing look, but many others have much nice ones than I do.
I hate to be disappointing, but I really do not like to list DTMs since they can vary so much depending on the weather and the gardener. At the top of the Tomato Page, I do expand on this topic for tomatoes.
If anything takes a longer or shorter than normal time for maturation I do try to mention it in the description.
Thanks so much for your interest!
Remy
