I try to put full shots in when I can. Sometimes they just come out awful, and I like to keep those to a minimum, lol. I do take many photos and hopefully I will get better with the full shots as time goes on.

Great site! I love your descriptions of the plants--wish I could see your garden! It must be incredible. I'm looking forward to ordering seeds for fall and next season, but I was wondering if you could list approximate maturation times for things like tomatoes, peppers, squash, etc. Again, I love your site and I'm so glad Dave's helped me discover it.
Replied on: 3:44pm 08-18-2011

Hi Claire,
I'm glad you found the site and like it! My garden can be nice if you like the jam packed overflowing look, but many others have much nice ones than I do.
I hate to be disappointing, but I really do not like to list DTMs since they can vary so much depending on the weather and the gardener. At the top of the Tomato Page, I do expand on this topic for tomatoes.
If anything takes a longer or shorter than normal time for maturation I do try to mention it in the description.
Thanks so much for your interest!

Hi Nalini,
I checked back and see that you bought pre-sprouted seeds. So they were growing when mailed out. I will send you a message to try and figure out what went wrong once you got them.

hi I live in Andalucia, Spain the temp here goes up to 48 degrees C(its that today and down to 20 at night) I have started to experiment with different varieties of tomatoes, which was easy in England. Much more challenging here on heavy clay soil , I grow a lot of tomaotes in big tubs. The choice of tomato seed here is very limited, so I love the USA´s lists. Please can you tell me when in fall you can start to order some of the out of stock items? Do you know if the potato leaf verieties are ok in the heat, they are grey leaved and thick so I thought they might be. thanks
Replied on: 9:14am 08-16-2011

Hi Gaynor,
The updated list will be out on around November 15th. Potato leaves should do well. Many people who live in the southern USA have favorites that are potato leaf. Some people feel they are more disease resistant.
Big tubs works great for tomatoes. I grow some in tubs every year and they do very well.

Hi Brian,
The Red Peter peppers are just starting to develop now so I imagine it will be late fall when I put them up for sale. If you are on FaceBook, you can "like" The Sample Seed Shop. I make updated product announcements on there.

I will have garlic bublils later in summer. I will try to remember to email you to let you know when they are in stock. At this time, I will not be carrying onions or shallots, but you never know what the future will bring.

A yellow or orange currant tomato if they exist
I see the orange currants in stores and wonder if they are open-pollinated? Also, is Sun Cherry open-pollinated? I ordered 10 packets from you and all are growing gangbusters. Can't wait to taste some of these tomatoes that are new to me.
Replied on: 5:00pm 06-23-2011

Hi Roberta,
Glad to hear they are growing like gangbusters! I hope you have a great harvest.
Yellow and Orange Currants are Open Pollinated. I'll see what I can do for for Fall. If a wholesaler has them I'll grab a few.
Sun Cherry is a hybrid. I probably won't carry that. Most of the tomato hybrids are pretty pricy so I'm trying to keep them to a minimum.
Thanks for your input,
Remy

bought seeds of Camissonia cheirnthifolia, caprarie biflora, borrichia frutesencens. (bonus) for sand. How do I plant?
Replied on: 7:04pm 06-12-2011

Hi Marilyn,
They are all warm climate perennials so they do not need cold stratification. Being seaside plants, they must be kept moist. I would recommend pots in part shade that you can easily keep an eye on or inside if you have a spot. The seeds should of the Cammisonia and Borrichia should barely be covered. The Capraria seed which is very tiny should be surface sowed as all plants with tiny seeds should be. That is a rule of thumb with sowing seeds the tinier the seed the closer to the surface they should be : )
Hope this helps,
Remy

Hi Remy,
Thanks for the 2 day mail delivery during a postal strike (in Canada)!!! I was a bit worried, but the seeds came faster than expected. I only needed some tomatillo seeds (only had one plant and didn't realize I needed 2 to fertilize) but couldn't resist some of the tomatoes! Really late to start them now... & no place to grow them... going to do one of each anyway (:
Thanks again,
Nicky

Remy, Just wanted to pop over and say hi! Curiosity makes me ask if you've ever played around in the local Plantcycle.org groups. We have one in the Cortland area (7ValleyPlantcycle.com) that is having a plant Swap in Ithaca, NY on 06/12/11 Glad to meet the local competition...lol.

Hi Dave,
Nice to meet you. No, there is no plant cycle group here. We do have a plant swap in Hamlin every year. It started from a group of WNY GardenWeb gardeners. The yearly attendees have become good friends. Link in case anyone is interested for this year or coming years ~ http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/upstateny/msg0409140029774.html?26
Hope you are enjoying this great weather we finally having!
